Inu to Hasami wa Tsukaiyou (12 episodes)
The absurd mystery comedy centers around Kazuhito Harumi, a high school boy who is obsessed with reading books. One day, he is killed in the middle of a robbery — and resurrected as a dachshund dog. Unable to read in his new form, the hapless Kazuhito now belongs to Kirihime Natsuno, a sadistic novelist who uses scissors on Kazuhito to abuse him.
Marina Inoue as Kirihime Natsuno
Takahiro Sakurai as Kazuhito Harumi
Dog and Scissors began in a bit of weird way with Harumi Kazuhito are main male protagonist narrating “this is a story about books. Of writing or dying” and from there he is playfully menaced to die by Kirihime
Natsuno (the black-haired sadist woman with striking red eyes).
The Opening Theme was quite a striking difference to any anime song mostly used for most anime. Not sure whether to think its overly upbeat in not exactly a pleasing way or not. Although come to think of it since Dog and Scissors is supposed to an absurd mystery comedy then the OP is quite fitting after some thought.
|OP-“Wan Wan Wan Wan N_1!!” (わんわんわんわんN_1!!) by Inu Musume|
|ED-“Lemonade Scandal” (レモネイドスキャンダル) by Yū Serizawa|
The Ending Theme Song was really cute and the animation sequences were quite fun and if its any indication we are very much going to have a new introduction of even more characters in episodes to come.
While the OP may not exactly be a winner for some. Our main character Kazuhito is quite an interesting one. Right off, we realize this guy is obsessed with books. And I mean the book obsession is mentioned quite a lot. In many ways its used in a comedic relief sort of way where he’d do anything for books. Even when Kazuhito is killed in a robbery where he dies protecting ,Kirihime Natsuno, who he then doesn’t realize actually is Akiyama Shinobu ,his most favorite novelist, and who’s novels he puts on a pedestal! Even in death, Kazuhito would not want to die without having read a book he’s anticipating the most for release by Akiyama Shinobu titled “Lust”. Which funnily enough makes me wonder with a title like that, what it could be about? Miraculously Kazuhito escapes certain death by ending in the body of a dachshund dog and Kirihime Natsuno somehow hears his pleads in her head. His pleads which are actually for a way to be able to read novels. Mysteriously enough Kirihime can hear him. It is obvious the mystery of the new anime series may focus on why Kazuhito’s soul ended up in a dog and why Kirihime is the only one that can hear him.
Dog and Scissors seems like a promising anime series from the first episode. What really makes it a good anime series to watch from the beginning is that the animation is quite wonderful. The animation studio happens to be Gonzo which not surprised considering they have done other really terrific animation besides Dog and Scissors.
Overall it’s very enjoyable and the story as well especially the interactions between Kazuhito and Kirihime. So pretty excited to see more! It could go in even more impressive directions. We’ll, see. Dog and Scissors might appeal more to people who have more quirky tastes in anime like say Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo (that anime was really goofy and strange at times) or who are more open to different genre types of anime.
