This is one dark anime series and the more you uncover as the series progresses the more it gets that way. Regardless in 2008, it was the year first watched Corpse Princess or as knew it then Shikabane Hime. The series was up on YouTube and it was one of these series just felt so dazzled by. The animation despite its dark tones was nothing short of phenomenal. It makes sense since the animation production is done by Studio Gainax. The character designs were also very unique. The soundtrack for the series was one of the best have heard for an anime series. Most of the music was performed by Angela and composed by Atsuko Katsu (K-Opening Theme Song).

The story revolves around young girls who when they die choose to become immortal corpses. Their re-animated bodies are built for fighting. They fight corpses that are unlike them because they are not bound by a sacred contract only monks that fight with the shikabane himes (corpse princesses) have and can bestow.

The story itself works well although it is not until the conclusion where some viewers might find it leaves the audience hanging. After much reflection Corpse Princess does not suffer from a bad closure simply because with a viewer’s foreshadowing and assumptions the fate of the characters’ can be seen clearly. Corpse Princess is one of the anime series heavily recommend for those who are always looking for a horror or supernatural series with drama and action too.

Genre: Horror, Supernatural, Drama, Action
