EPISODE 1 REVIEW-There was obviously a lot of hype I had been seeing for The Irregular at Magic High School even before it aired. A lot of the comparisons for this new anime series were made to Sword Art Online. Apparently anime of this type which is Fantasy/magic related make a lot of buzz from anime fans. Although being the anime fan I am don’t like to compare anime to another most of the time. So, The Irregular at Magic High School find to be unique and the atmosphere of the anime series is definitely something special but would I compare it to something like Sword Art Online? No, let’s us see it for what it is. It is different but so far really interesting. I myself was excited for the series because of the animation itself and also the artists to be in charged of the theme song music that includes LiSA. Funnily, enough LiSA also sung the first opening theme, Crossing Field, for the anime series Sword Art Online.
The Irregular at Magic High School gave a nice opening introduction to the world of The Irregular at Magic High School. It offered the premise that after bad climate change and low food and energy sources war broke out. The only way to restore any semblance of peace was through people who had created a way through technology to manipulate magic-magicians. The world after 20 years of war went back to normal albeit with a rather reduced population. Still magic high schools/universities popped up to educate more magicians since they are capable to bring energy resources to keep nations running.
Miyuki and Tatsuya are one brother and sister pair who have just started at the National Magic University Affiliated First High School to train to be magicians. There is a divide between their level of power at this point because of how one of them still hasn’t manifested better practical skills over theoretical knowledge.
The music for the first episode was more than just good. The fighting scenes specifically when Tatsuya shows off his martial arts was one of the best scores and really reminded of the beautiful well-done background music of Noragami. Toward the end you see the Opening Theme Song and must say really love LiSA’s opening theme song titled Rising Hope. It seems The Irregular at Magic High School will have a good score judging from this first episode. At this point I just hope that Aniplex of America doesn’t license this series for North America distribution or it will be extremely hard for me to afford this series in home video when it releases. Well, that is if it becomes one of my favorites for 2014. Too soon to tell since it has only been the first episode.
The series had a very good episode that really gave you the big splash of what can only describe as potentiality for being an epic anime to be. The first episode just pushed all the right buttons where it will leave anime fans wanting more. And if anything will get even better in the strong mystery of this magical world and even in the mystery of the characters specifically Tatsuya which I am hoping I am not the only to notice he might have some secret magic yet to be seen. Despite the noticeable brother-sister incest relationship this is a series feel will get more serious in the magic attacks and fantasy-science fiction area. This is one anime series truly excited and thinking about whether No Game, No Life, Escha and Loy no Atelier: Tasogare no Renkinjutsushi, and or Black Bullet will have what it takes to impress me once they air. I hope so since really looking forward to them too.
