As many of you know who have read the blog. Thank you for that, of course. One of the two primary reasons began Love Stage!! to begin with was that it was going to be a Boys Love anime and the other was that it will be starring Takuya Eguchi. Yes! Takuya Eguchi who voiced Hikigaya Hachiman from My Romantic Teen Comedy is Wrong As I Expected. which I saw back in Summer 2013. His voice. His voice. There are no words to describe it but he is certainly a very talented voice actor, indeed.
Aside from him actually extending his range in voicing from what had seen in the past the anime series itself was way on the level of a masterpiece within the broad genre of Boys Love-BL. Even as write this there is not much anime within the genre to speak of which is a real shame.
I will say this J.C. Staff in one of those animation studios that really have true skill. You can tell when a series is of their make from just looking at a few episodes. My comparisons lie in comparing Love Stage!! against The Hentai Prince and The Stony Cat. Not sure if some of you see it but from my point of view. Its telling it has J.C. Staff’s name written on it. The attention to detail and rich colorful animation style that seems youthful and very smoothly animated all-around. This series is also a rare exception where have seen a technique of animation used that borders from one animation style to another easily. Scenes particularly seen from Izumi’s imagination or perspective. Very creative and they just add better characterization to Izumi.
The story from the very beginning is actually easy to relate to. At the very least, its a story people can sit back and feel for the characters. What the anime series Love Stage!! has did well was the very first episode was attention worthy. Although, this being a Boys Love anime series a lot of people were already talking about it all over the internet even well before the premiere. From people disapproving of it or actually rejoicing over the eventual airing. In Episode 3, without revealing too much things do get awkward but its due to actions as taken by the characters. Thankfully things are renewed and we have some relief from what could have turned into a very dangerous territory. After which the series, continues to clear the way for Ryouma and Izumi’s cute romantic guy on guy relationship that is more on the shonen-ai side. Pretty sure that is what all fans would want anyway.
Just because Love Stage’s animation was super glossy did it just mean that those working on the animation project decided to skim over the story’s details and progress. No, they weaved a strong story which aimed to be mature but fun. This is entirely out of speculative opinion but Love Stage!! seems to be quite a masterpiece in the Boys Love anime genre. It has so many key pieces that all were set on the level of max perfection. It had emotion. A lot of it. All perfectly coming together from various fronts: animation, story, voice acting, and even music. Thus when the end came it felt very complete as if more seasons would not even be necessary.
Recommendation Level: Phenomenal anime series. Very Highly Recommended.

Izumi was born in a family of celebrities. His father is a singer, his mother and artist, his older brother the lead vocalist for the popular band Crashers. Izumi himself, however, is just a nerdy college student. He loves the manga “Magical Girl Lala Lulu” and dreams of becoming a manga writer himself. One day he is roped into filming a commercial where he wears a dress. Another actor on the set, Ryoma Ichijo, mistakes him for a woman and falls in love at first sight. As it turns out, though, they met ten years in the past. And Ryoma feelings don’t change when he finds out Izumi is a boy.
