First Look-Chaika The Coffin Princess: Avenging Battle + Episode 2 Anime Review

Chaika The Coffin Princess: Avenging Battle-2014 Director: Souichi Masui | Animation Studio: BONES

FIRST LOOK-One of my personal favorite anime series of recent times that has to do with Fantasy has again returned for Fall 2014. While the series was certainly downgraded to 2 less episodes that the first season of the anime. Hey, you are still getting Chaika The Coffin Princess here, so no one should be having any issues with it. From news apparently the anime season’s closing will actually coincide with the end of the manga series. So I guess all the manga fans who want some of the story for the anime to be picture perfect and all should be pleased. For me not so much. I have always been happy with anime original turns and or anime originals.

With all that said the return of Chaika The Coffin Princess: Avenging Battle seemed to be a happy one even if in a very casual way. We have the events of how Vivi turns out after her less than graceful turn to Chaika rehashed and so forth but all in quick and quiet version. It actually seemed right for the series given how much the series has to still explain mainly who was the Emperor Gaz and who is Chaika Trabant—-our White Chaika.

Chaika The Coffin Princess Avenging Battle Episode #1-Toru's old saboteour mentor spying on Toru and Chaika

Toru’s old saboteur mentor was spying on him and Chaika together. Wonder why? Kind of strange.

Chaika The Coffin Princess Avenging Battle Episode #2-Toru's old saboteour mentor spying on Toru and Chaika

He looks rather scary.

EPISODE 2-White Chaika as was pointed out by all previous Chaikas or the Fakes thrives and is victorious simply from her cute vulnerable factor which gets people to want to help her. Mainly the saboteur siblings: Toru and ,yes, even Akari.

She has never really needed to fight since she always has new people she meets that are more than willing to help her. The dupes. Kidding! But because of this personality quality she has never had to develop her wizard powers. So in episode 1 or the first look we are seeing her being pushed to extremes magically. She has to quickly get experience.

It all leaves Chaika to new revelations. Including her new need to protect Toru since for a while Chaika has started to really be out there in the world and even she falls in love. I fear that those who say a Toru and Chaika pairing is impossible for them since that would mean he is a lolicon. Well, I really feel bad for those people. Lesson #1 this is either a Chaika and Toru decision on their part and also this is within a sort of medieval Fantasy world and age differences hardly mattered. Those are only a few explanations but could go on with more but for time’s sake I will leave it at that.

Overall I liked that the second season of Chaika The Coffin Princess was subdued. It does not always have to return with crazy plot twists or a flashy return. The small changes are happening slowly but at their own pace. And as long as the return gets across the direction, it is fine.

Through Episodes #1-#2 the new direction was being paved and by the end of episode #2 we actually got it. So in Episode #2 titled, A Wizard’s Pride, Chaika makes the shocking decision to change their goal. Instead now it will be something concerning looking for information on who or what she is. Season 1 of Chaika The Coffin Princess had Toru, Chaika, and Akari setting their goal for the search for the remains of Emperor’ Gaz’s remains but now it is to discover the origins of Chaika herself. The only real observation can come up with is that it would be something unpleasant which would cause Chaika to perhaps react in a vengeful way or totally shatter what White Chika ever knew about her father Emperor Gaz.

I am actually planning to do some blogging over Chaika The Coffin Princess: Avenging Battle for 2 more episodes and then and all encompassing full anime series review for Season 1 and Season 2.

Season 2 of Chaika The Coffin Princess known as Chaika The Coffin Princess: Avenging Battle

The year is 1604. On the continent of Verbist, an age of war lasting for three generations finally ended with the fall of the northern nation, the Gaz Empire. In addition to legitimate knights and soldiers, the militant forces sent to battle included wizards, saboteurs, and mercenaries, totaling 620,000. What’s more, three airborne strongholds and massive numbers of magical weapons plus beast and dragon cavalries were added to the ranks, ending in the annihilation of the Gaz Empire, which had been deemed “the root of all evil.”.
