Gekkan Shojo Nozaki-kun (2014) Anime Series Review

Nozaki-kun asking to Chiyo for a bike ride Part 1-Gekkan Shojo Nozaki-kun Episode 1

Gekkan Shojo Nozaki-kun-2014 Director: Mitsue Yamazaki | Animation Studio: Dogakobo

Gekkan Shojo Nozaki-kun details the life of a young girl in high school named Sakura Chiyo who has a big crush on, a fellow classmate, who turns out to secretly be a professional manga artist. Throughout this most fun anime series, we get to see a look into the world of the manga industry with an unusual flavor that is peppered with extravagant, and often outlandish comedic situations. Crazily so!

Nozaki-kun asking to Chiyo for a bike ride Part 5-Gekkan Shojo Nozaki-kun Episode 1

Gekkan Shojo Nozaki-kun starts off powerful with the comedy but as it progressed into the second half most of the jokes got less funny and waned. In the end, this was the degradation of the series considering much of the edge of the anime originally was the focus of the comedy.

Attention to detail in this anime series!-Gekkan Shojo Nozaki-kun Episode 1

Bearing that in mind, some other comedy anime better served looking into are Cuticle Detective Inaba, Dog & Scissors, and Wolf Girl and Black Prince. All of whom possess a particular quirky sense of comedy like Gekkan Shojo Nozaki-kun.

Recommendation Level: Good anime series. Well recommended.

  1. I really need to watch this, was following it when it was coming out but then I stopped for some reason? Lol the bike scene will forever be implanted into my mind xD sad to know it starts to lose the funny though

Ookami shoujo to kuro ouji – I could not get through even the first episode of this…the whole time I was just covering my face in embarrassment and when she starts talking about romance I was like, ‘nope, I can’t watch this!’ XD

    • The anime stereotypes were a nice addition but somehow thought they could have been better balanced with the present comedy. But, yes, I know many fans loved that part of the series the poking fun at anime stereotypes. Seeing how they got turned on their heads. Despite everything, I still believe Gekkan Shojo Nozaki-kun was a good anime series but not phenomenal seeing how the balance was sort of lost.
